Avon Lea Farm
Chester Springs, Pennsylvania
In 1939, prominent Philadelphia architect Oscar Stonorov transformed this 19th century Chester County farm house into an international style home and studio. One of Kahn's early collaborators and early champion of modernism, Stonorov re-shaped the property continually until his untimely death in 1970. Details of the original house held inspiration to inform a conversion to suit today's lifestyle in general, and our client's ideals in particular. Under agreement with the local historical commission, most of the home's National Register-listed exterior was restored. A 2,400 SF addition and extensive interior renovation reorients the main house interior around a two-story great room and kitchen as open to the panoramic landscape as the kitchen garden it replaced.
