Hunter's Vale

Chester Springs, Pennsylvania

When discovered by our client, this seven-acre property comprised an unfinished horse barn and a deteriorating 1960's era walk-out ranch house. Seeing great potential, we set about repositioning the property as a small, high-end horse farm. The main body of the house was completely renovated and extended vertically adding a second full floor of bedrooms. The lower level garage, with its concrete slab roof deck was converted to living space and formed the base for a new vaulted great room. To affect a dramatic change to the scale of the home and to engage with a renewed landscape to the rear, the entire existing living room was removed to form a sweeping stairway and two-story center for a variety of living and entertaining spaces on the lower level. A new roof structure for the barn was carefully designed to allow for a variety of uses, but was held low enough to preserve views from the adjacent great room windows. The landscapes around the house including a new entry circle, approach walkway and front terrace area established a new sense of easy formality that has been carried on by the curren towners as they have continued to expand and develop the landscapes.
